Book Seven: Judges
(Judges 1:1) “Now after the death of Josh’-u-a it came to pass, that the children of Is’-ra-el asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Ca’-na-an-ites first, to fight against them? And the LORD said, Ju’-dah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.”
(Judges 3:15) “But when the children of Is’-ra-el cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a deliverer, E’-hud the son of Ge’-ra, a Ben’-ja-mite, a man lefthanded and by him the children of Is’-ra-el sent a present unto Eg’-lon the king of Mo’-ab. But E’-hud made him a dagger which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he did gird it under his raiment upon his right thigh. And he brought the present unto Eg’-lon king of Mo’-ab: and Eg’-lon was a very fat man.”
(Judges 5:1-31) “Then sang Deb’-o-rah and Ba’-rak the son of A-bin’-o-am on that day, saying, Praise ye the LORD for the avenging of Is’-ra-el, when the people willingly offered themselves. Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the LORD; I will sing praise to the LORD God of Is’-ra-el… Blessed above women shall Ja’-el the wife of He’-ber the Ke’-nite be, blessed and she gave him milk; she brought forth butter in a lordly dish. She put her hand to the nail, and her right hand to the workmen’s hammer; and with the hammer she smote Sis’-e-ra, she smote off his head, when she had pierced and stricken through his temples. At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: at her feet he bowed, he fell: where he bowed, there he fell down dead.”
(Judges 8:1) “And the men of E’-phra-im said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with the Mid’-i-an-ites? And they did chide with him sharply.”
(Judges 9:48) “And A-bim’-e-lech gat him up to mount Zal’-mon, he and all the people that were with him; and A-bim’-e’lech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it, and laid it on his shoulder, and said unto the people that were with him, What ye have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done.”
(Judges 11:36) “And she said unto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth unto the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, even of the children of Am’-mon. And she said unto her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains and bewail my virginity, I and my fellows. And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and he sent her away for two months: and she went with her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains.”
(Judges 15:15) “And Sam’-son said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men.”
(Judges 17:3) “And when he had restored the eleven hundred she’-kels of silver to his mother, his mother said, I had wholly dedicated the silver unto the LORD from my hand for my son, to make a graven image and a molten image: now therefore I will restore it unto thee. Yet he restored the money unto his mother; and his mother took two hundred she’-kels of silver, and gave them to the founder, who made thereof a graven image and a molten image: and they were in the house of Mi’-cah.”
(Judges 20:8) “And all the people arose as one man, saying, We will not any of us go to his tent, neither will we any of us turn into his house.”
(Judges 21:16) “Then the elders of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Ben’-ja-min?
